IMPORTANT SOUTHEAST PA USBC OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS ANNOUNCEMENT

APRIL 9, 2019

Southeast PA USBC Bowlers,

We have some news regarding our Open Championships this weekend and the weekend of April 27th & 28th.

There is limited space available for this weekend, if you reserved your entry in advance, please arrive at least 45 minutes before the start of the squad times to pay for your entry. The squad times this weekend are:

  • TEAM – APRIL 13TH @ 4:00 PM
  • SINGLES/DOUBLES – APRIL 13TH @ 7:30 PM
  • SINGLES/DOUBLES – APRIL 14TH @ 11:00 AM
  • TEAM – APRIL 14TH @ 2:30 PM

We can always use volunteers to help keep score at our tournaments. If you are interested in helping with the tournament, please email southeastpausbc@gmail.com.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, Thunderbird Warminster’s bowling center availability for April 27th has changed. Because of the change in lane and center availability, this will require that we combine the Team Squad at 4:00 PM on April 27th and the Singles/Doubles squad on April 27th with a new start time of 6:00 PM. We will be calling all entry organizers to make sure they want to keep their entry reservations. If your team is scheduled to bowl all nine games on April 27th, you will still be able to do so. There will be a break for re-oiling and new lane assignments for the Singles/Doubles pairs. The situation is unfortunate, and something that was out of our and the bowling center’s control. We are no longer accepting reservation for April 27th at this time, if anything changes we will make an announcement. The Sunday, April 28th squads are remaining the same as scheduled.

The tournament schedule for the second weekend of our Open Championships is below:

  • TEAM/SINGLES/DOUBLES COMBINED – APRIL 27TH @ 6:00 PM
  • SINGLES/DOUBLES – APRIL 28TH @ 11:00 AM
  • TEAM – APRIL 28TH @ 2:30 PM

If any entries on April 27th would like to change their squad day and time, please let us know by emailing southeastpausbc@gmail.com. We will also be calling each entry organizer to let them know of the changes.

Thank you, everyone, for understanding, and we look forward to holding another successful Southeast PA USBC Open Championships for 2019!

USBC Bowling Technology Study

February 23, 2018

THE FOLLOWING NEWS STORY IS FROM BOWL.COM

For more than two years, the United States Bowling Congress has examined technology in bowling to determine its impact on the sport.

The examination included in-depth research by the USBC Equipment Specifications and Cerfications team, independent surveys with participants, center owners and pro shop operators, along with focus groups of proprietors and pro shop owners, and a summit of bowling leaders.

The Bowling Technology Study – An Examination and Discussion on Technology’s Impact in the Sport of Bowling, is a compilation of the results of the research, surveys and focus groups is in the underlined link above.

“As the National Governing Body of the sport, continuous research and discussion are an important part of what we do,” USBC Executive Chad Murphy said. “Technology constantly is changing and players also evolve, but it is important the skill of the competitors remain the most important factor when bowlers compete on the lanes. The USBC Equipment Specifications and Certifications team had some eye-opening discoveries, and along with the feedback we received, the Bowling Technology Study provides an insightful look at where our sport stands today.”

The study examines bowling balls, and the lanes, with research on the oil absorption rates of coverstocks, how balance holes affect bowling balls, and the impact of Radius of Gyration (RG) and Differential RG. It also includes a league simulation study to have a better understanding of oil depletion and ball reaction for bowlers during competition.

The Bowling Technology Study provides results of independent surveys sent to members of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA), International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA) and to USBC members, along with results of informal Facebook polls. Discussions with focus groups provided those invested in the sport the opportunity to exchange ideas and options.
